Destinations of a Lifetime: 225 of the World’s Most Amazing Places

Destinations of a Lifetime: 225 of the World's Most Amazing Places

By Serene Night

Format: Hardcover

I bought this for my 90 year old father who has dementia. He loves looking and reading through it and has so far gotten hours of enjoyment from it. This book is beautiful and being National Geographic you know it is quality. I would recommend this book for seniors to engage their minds and interest. Father has taken to sitting it on his bed at night so he can glance at it.

1,000 Places to See Before You Die: Revised Second Edition

1,000 Places to See Before You Die: Revised Second Edition

By Caren

Format: Paperback

Having worn my original copy of the book down to where pages are filled with my own notes and scribbles everywhere, I had no idea how a revision could be better than the first. But I bought it to have a “clean” copy. I am over-the-moon excited by the new inclusions and additional comments to the old ones. I have no idea how Ms Schultz managed to add so much more to the original such as places to see on the way to get to the places in the book as well as the color photos. And, it seems to me, there are many less expensive options to the uber expensive accommodations that have their own unique style and charm and are not just a “cheaper option down the road”. I looove this book!

Here.

How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Revised: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter

How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Revised: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter

By S. Bianchi

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

One of the most useful travel books I have read. Contains countless practical tips for budget travelers as well as those with a little more to spend.

On his travel guide sections- I find that I travel in the same way and use the same methods as Matt. Similar splurges, similar evaluations of where to spend and where not to. And I like that Matt leaves things open and doesn’t recommend which specific places to stay and eat, just provides descriptions of what the levels of accommodations and travel are like as well as gives examples of local food and attraction prices.

But most important to me is that this book and his blog, inspire me and give me courage to travel more outside my comfort zone. You just have to realize that no one wants to hurt you (99.5% of the world), people weaker/less skilled than you are travelling every day, and if things just don’t work out you come home. I find myself increasingly motivated to travel and live around the world and have made actual steps towards these goals because of this book. Can’t recommend highly enough to travelers, those about to travel, or those who are scared of it.

Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Greatest Trips

Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World's Greatest Trips

By Melissa Kaye

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase

I love to travel and I think this book is fantastic! Browsing through this beautiful book, I had to add several travel destinations to my list of places I someday want to visit. If you want some great vacation ideas, from US to exotic oversees destinations, this book will provide many. Paging through the book is also an educational opportunity to discover a bit more about places around the world.

The book is not organized by location (although there is an index for finding specific destinations), but rather the itineraries are listed under the following categories:

Across Water
By Road
By Rail
On Foot
In Search Of Culture
In Gourmet Heaven
Into the Action
Up and Away
In Their Footsteps

Each destination or journey entry includes a page of photos and information. A small map showing the location and route (if applicable) is included as well as a list of highlights. There is also a paragraph or two about the trip and each destination includes sections labeled: When to Go, How Long, Planning, Insider Information, and Websites. These provide some good information and tips for travelers and the website listings give the readers a way to find more details if they want to plan a trip.

The book contains a wealth of ideas and there is certainly something for everyone. Just a sampling of the trips in the book:

Sampling Food along the Mediterranean
Following Che’s trip in Argentina (as depicted in the movie “The Motorcycle Diaries”)
Cycling Across Transylvania
Riding the Moroccan Camel Train
Driving from Utah’s Bryce Canyon to Capital Reef
India’s Golden Triangle (Dehli, Jaipur, Agra)

This is a beautiful book that is very well done. National Geographic does not disappoint here!

The Book of Everything: A Visual Guide to Travel and the World

By Shawn Paul Elmore

Not sure what to say other than I need to buy one for myself. I purchased it as a gift and my friend loved it (she’s a traveler). An example of how cool it is: It has a US map with oddly named cities from each state and you can even look up directions to get there. Great gift, and resource, for any traveler or wannabe.

The book gives a great overview on which trips I wanted to take but lacks a lot of details. Still amazing! Photographs make me envious of the photographer. 🙂
